US 13 Dragway
Coastal Clash Washes in at US 13 Dragway in Delmar
Delmar, DE -
This weekend the Coastal Clash literally did wash into US 13 Dragway. The winds, rain, sun, clouds...you name it we had it!
Friday Gambler's action at the Tire King LLC Coastal Clash, presented by Accutrench Contracting LLC was as much a battle with the weather as it was action on the track. The US 13 Dragway team worked tirelessly to get the track in shape after heavy overnight rain; then went to work again after an early evening shower. It was nearly midnight until the three finals were completed.
Friday night, the Jr Dragster division brought 7 drivers to the starting line in the quarters. They were Shane Dailey, Ella Ketterman, Jackson Greiner, Landen Anderson, Noah James, Lucas Gordy and Anthony Magliocco.
Magliocco won a double breakout against Anderson, the last standing 11.90 car. Gordy cut Dailey's reaction time in half, forcing the latter to break out. Greiner killed the tree with a .007 running 2 above to turn away Ketterman.
James finished out the round on the bye. Magliocco ended James's day in the semis laying down .033 total while Gordy dropped it like it was hot as Greiner was unable to catch it and broke out by .038. In the final round Gordy was .007 at the hit to the .041 of Magliocco but got too aggressive at the line giving up the stripe and handing the win to Anthony.
No-Box Friday competition saw Reid Ricketson, Bob DeYoung, Brice Cornish, Chris Gonier, Rob Reinert Jr, and Dave Dissinger with two in the quarters. Dissinger went through on his first entry winning a battle of .00x lights against Ricketson. DeYoung was .050 total to lock out Reinert. Cornish took his bike on a single before Dissinger came back to defeat Gonier in the closest run of the round by just .002.
The semis saw Dissinger avoid running himself, though in hindsight he might have wished it worked out that way. In the first matchup DeYoung was .002, giving himself 5 hundredths to work with and the win. In the 2nd matchup Dissinger turned it -.002 handing the final round pass to Cornish.
The final was over just as quickly with Cornish turning it -.004 letting DeYoung get away with his worst reaction time of the day. It capped a great day for a finalist for the long-haul award, as DeYoung hails from Connecticut.
In Top action the final seven were Alex Bradford, George Miller, Marc Williams, Mac Dougherty, Jerry Birchfield Sr, Christian Walston, and Mike "Snap" Nahill. Miller took a .003 margin against Walston to move on. Bradford was the benefactor of a Birchfield red light. Williams .033 package was too much for Snap to get inside and Dougherty took the free pass.
Bradford beat Dougherty in the semis with an .010 initiated 4.808 on his 4.78 dial forcing Mac to drop and hope for the best. Miller and Williams both left .032 with Miller running dead 5 to get there first .006.
The final round was all Miller who was .015 total locking out Bradford from the starting line.
Saturday, the sun shined but the wind did blow! In the Jr division, The final 3 had Anthony Magliocco, Blake Lecates-Truitt and Ella Ketterman all marching towards that winner's trophy. Magliocco found his way back to the Winner's circle with a narrow victory over local Blake LeCates-Truitt from Salisbury, Md. Lecates with a .049 advantage at the tree ran under his dial by .016 to give Magliocco the win.
Sunday's semifinals had Braydon Hazzard, Nazair Wallace and Shane Conner looking for the win. The last two standing after semis were Braydon Hazzard of Millsboro, DE who benefited from a -.015 red light to take the winner's circle photo away from Nazair Wallace of Glen Burnie, MD.
No Box action Saturday, Jeffrey Santin, Pete Bushnell, Tommy Teague and Russ Archer all pushed their way toward the winner's circle; however, in the end Jeff Santin took the 2 wheels all the way when Bushnell put on a -.007 red light to finish the night.
Sunday, Tim Foskey, Josh Phelps and Ken Bosset were the final 3 striving for that win. a .015 advantage at the start took Foskey to the winner's circle stead of Phelps. Bosset had to settle for a semi loss.
In Top, Saturday the final 4 drivers pushing to the finish line were Billy Thomas, Daryl Tillman, Kyle Cultrera and Dalton Weltner. In the semis, Thomas took the victory away from Cultrera which led him to the winner's circle over Daryl Tillman with Tillman leaving -.003 early.
Sunday, the last man standing as the final pair went down the track was David Whitesell of Glen Burnie, MD. He took the victory over local Brian Riebert Jr. Riebert was looking for his first big finish at a top money race. He was slightly anxious and left early giving Whitesell the win with Riebert's -.025 red light. Semis left Jake Knarr and Robbie Hamilton both taking semi defeats from Riebert and Whitesell.
