Covington Comes Home 9th at Red Dirt Raceway
Matt Covington Racing, Glenpool, Ok (May 15th, 2024)– Matt Covington drove the Triple X/D&W Towing mount to a 9th place finish during last week’s ASCS National Tour event at Red Dirt Raceway.
Covington came home 1st in the heat after starting 2nd and 1st in the dash from the three-hole. After fighting the loose race car and lacking forward drive, Covington slowly slipped back to end up with a 9th-place finish in the feature.
“The car was good during the heat and dash, we had that speed early but struggled to get going in the feature,” Matt said. “We are missing the balance late and just weren’t tight enough to get the needed forward bite to stay up front the last couple of weeks. We got back to the shop, stripped the car, and dug out the notebook. We won’t be outworked and won’t quit trying to better our program until we’re back up front like we should be. I think we had a couple of the 410 setups playing head games with us and we also found some things on the car to improve upon. So, we should be much better and back to form in the upcoming races. Yes, the last couple of weekends have been disappointing by our standards. But this sport is very humbling and we will just keep fighting and plugging away.”
With the National Tour off, Covington will examine the weather and some regional schedules to determine which races to attend in the next few weeks.
