Longdale, Oklahoma Sports Park on tap for Sooner Late Models

By John Rittenoure - TULSA, Okla. (May 13, 2024) - Two nights of racing are on tap for the APEX Healthcare Partners Sooner Late Model Series this weekend with stops at Longdale Speedway and Oklahoma Sports Park.

Friday Longdale Speedway will host the first of two stops there this season. The Sooner Series visited Longdale three times in 2023 with Brett Hansen, Joseph Gorby and Tanner Mullens picking up victories. Gorby turned in the top overall performance with a second behind Hansen and third behind Mullens to go with his victory in the second event.

Gates open at 5 p.m. with racing slated for 8.

Saturday it is on to Oklahoma Sports Park for the first time since 2022. In 2022 the Sooner Series visited Oklahoma Sports Park twice and fans were treated to an exciting finish as young Hayden Ross beat fellow Muskogee driver Kerney Weaver and four-time champion Kip Hughs of Enid to the checkered flag on April 23. The series returned on Sept. 17 and Jason Redman of Sapulpa picked up the victory over Weaver who once again found himself one spot short of a win.

Gates at Oklahoma Sports Park open at 5 p.m. followed by racing at 7:30.

Coming into the weekend Dalon Helm of Sherrard, Ill. is leading the points race and looking for his first victory. Dakota Dillinger of Hutchinson, Kansas sits in second over Steve Hewitt, Sr. of Mannford, Beaver County Raceway winner Jon Herring, Jr. of Enid holds down fourth and fellow Enid racer Troy Bynum is fifth.

2024 Winners: 4/6 - Kip Hughes, Enid Speedway; 4/13 - Jon Herring, Jr., Beaver County Raceway; 5/11 - Joe Godsey., Caney Valley Speedway.

Sooner Late Model Series
The Sooner Late Model Series was formed in 2016 by Enid Speedway co-promoter Mark Brill. Brill felt there was not many opportunities for late model competitors to race in Oklahoma and the Sooner Late Model Series was formed. Now the series has grown beyond the borders of Oklahoma with events held in the neighboring states of Kansas, Texas and Arkansas.
