Vis Scores First Win As 105 Race Teams Enter Maquoketa Speedway

Maquoketa, Iowa: Mother Nature provided a beautiful night for racing as the Maquoketa Speedway hosted “Tub O Towels” Night at the races on Saturday night. 105 Race teams took part in night number 2 of the 2024 racing season at the ¼ mile Speedway located on the Jackson County Fairgrounds.

The QC Jeeps.com IMCA Stock Cars provided another exciting feature event and a first time visitor to the Maquoketa Speedway victory lane. Dustin Vis hit his marks lap after lap and was able to hold off a very pesky Tanner Allen for the feature win. Vis scored his first ever feature win at the Maquoketa Speedway. Vis stated in Victory lane “ I knew Tanner would race me clean and he did for the entire race, I felt him applying pressure and it was a fun race and really good for this old dog to finally get a win here.” Allen finished second ahead of a fast closing Gage Neal.

Jeff “Bone” Larson captured another feature win on Saturday night in the Veach Septic & Sewer IMCA Modified division. Larson threaded the needle on the initial start and got to the front quickly from his 6th position start. Larson then set sail on the top side of the multi grooved track and kept his momentum up and sailed to the win ahead of young Charlie Mohr. The 99M of Mohr was able to catch Larson on several occasions but was not able to pose a serious threat to the smooth running Larson.

To say the Amhof Trucking IMCA Sportmod feature was another thriller would be an understatement. Jared Miles led early before the trio of Tyler Soppe, Jarrett Franzen and Shane Paris took over the top three spots and would go on to provide the fans with an action packed race. Paris had taken over the top spot with Franzen and Soppe in tow, the white flag was about to wave when heavy contact between Franzen and Paris brought the race to a grinding halt. Both Paris and Franzen went to the pits instead of restarting at the tail and Soppe was the benefactor of the incident and took command on the restart and went on to record the win over Scott Williams and Jacob Arp.

The Hawkins Construction & Trucking IMCA Hobby Stock feature saw a couple of veteran drivers race hard for the lead as Jimmy Doescher held Randy Lamar at bay for several laps until Lamar was able to use the extreme top side to make a move off of turn over and take over the top spot very late in the main event. Lamar scored a slim victory over Doescher and Daniel Wauters raced to a third place finish.

Jacob Welter scored the win in the Tri City Construction 4 cylinder main event after holding off a late race charge that included contact on the last lap with Josh Starr. Welter took the checkers less than a car length ahead of Starr.

The yellow flag played a major role in the INEX Legends feature on Saturday night. Michael Weber scored the win in the feature that saw less than half of the starting field take the checkers. Jackson Lewis finished second in the 20 lap feature.

The Maquoketa Speedway will be back in action on Saturday, May 18th as the IMCA Late Models will be back along with the AIRS Cars being an added attraction. The Legends cars will have the night off. Hot laps for the 7 classes of cars will be held a t 6 pm with racing to follow.
